Make Way for the Nissan Murano

In a world where almost every car manufacturer has several different sizes and classes of SUVs, being distinctive is not easy. Well, Nissan managed to make a distinctive SUV in the form of the Murano. The first thing that will catch your eye is the Murano’s styling, but that is not the only thing that sets it apart. It has a powerful engine in a very efficient setup, and it offers great comfort and interior quality. Let’s have a closer look.

Design of the Nissan Murano

The Murano is a mid-size crossover, so its size gives you enough room to be creative, but not so much to make it look bulky. Designers of the Murano used the vehicles space wisely.

The front hosts unorthodox headlights whose angle mimics that of the grilles chrome trim. The latter design idea is familiar from some other Nissan models, including larger SUVs. The rear looks youthful and modern, bearing seemingly unconnected parts which add up to a nice whole. Additions such as roof spoiler that completes the elegant roofline and prominent diffuser with smart exhaust tips also add to the modern feel.

However, the best view of the Murano is from the side. Window line is bordered by chrome inserts that form an elegant fish shape. Pronounced wheel arches and door creases make a wavy shape that adds to the floating look and make the Murano one of the most handsome designs on the market.

Interior of the Nissan Murano

On the inside, the Murano is better than most of its competitors in its price range. Materials are top notch, the design is modern and clean and it oozes elegance and quality. Higher trim levels bring quality that can be found in more upscale models, such as Infinity vehicles.

The Murano offers two rows of seats for up to five passengers, each of which will enjoy class-leading comfort. Leather is abundant on the inside and interior lighting ups the premium feel. Finding the right position behind the wheel is very easy as you can adjust the seat and the steering column in almost any way.

The cabin is high and wide which gives enough space for the head, legs and shoulders of up to five people. The width is also visible in the front where the driver and the passenger are divided by a wide central console that hosts the gearbox lever, and next to it there is still enough space for two cup holders.

If you really want to enjoy the best of the stylish interior, feel free to go to the top trim level that will give you Infiniti quality for a fraction of the price.

Engine and Drive of the Nissan Murano

The engine in the Murano is a naturally aspirated 3.5 l V6 with 260 hp and 240 lb-ft. It pushes the car with confidence and, paired with an Xtronic CVT, it always aims to give the best performance with the lowest fuel consumption.

The V6 and CVT team provides a quiet, responsive and efficient ride. Any change in throttle input results in an immediate reaction from the car. Getting to 100 takes 7.5 seconds and the push is constant and smooth. Steering is also great as it adapts to the speed you are traveling. When you are going slowly, for example while trying to park, it becomes lighter and putting the Murano in a parking space is a breeze. However, when you speed up, the steering wheel becomes heavier to give more feel and control.

Suspension is obviously geared towards comfort. The Murano is smooth over bumps and a superb motorway cruiser - quiet, comfortable and effortless. Body roll is expected and present with sharper cornering.

Trim Levels for the Nissan Murano

The Murano has five trim levels called S, SV, SL, Midnight Edition and Platinum. They all share a lot of features, including the engine and gearbox, so even the base model is well equipped.

The S comes with the mentioned 3.5 V6 with continuously variable valve timing, direct ignition and iridium spark plugs, paired with an Xtronic CVT gearbox. It is the only version that comes standard with front-wheel drive. Other standard features include ABS, EBD, brake assist, independent strut front suspension, multi-link independent rear, speed-based adjustable steering, 18” aluminium-alloy wheels, LED DLRs, turn signals and taillights, auto headlights, chrome door handles, splash guards, power heated mirrors, 8” multitouch display with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice recognition, Bluetooth, rear camera, dual-zone aircon with rear vents, cruise control, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, 60/40 split and reclining rear seats and front and rear USB ports. It also includes more safety features such as vehicle dynamic control, traction control, intelligent emergency braking and forward collision warning, vehicle security and immobilizer systems. It is also the only version that is FWD only.

The SV introduces intelligent AWD and builds on the S with features such as power panoramic moonroof, fog lights, motion activated liftgate, 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, remote engine start with intelligent climate control, heated leather wrapped steering wheel and leather shift knob.

The SL includes all of the above and adds silver roof rails, HomeLink garage door opener, driver seat and mirrors memory function, intelligent cruise control and Driver Alertness, auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient interior lighting, 4-way power passenger seat, heated rear seats, leather seats, Bose audio system with 11 speakers and dual subwoofer, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

The Midnight Edition adds darkened styling details such as 20” dark chrome alloys, black V-Motion grille, black interior details and Midnight Edition badging, black mirrors, illuminated kick plates and all-season floor liners.

If the Midnight Edition is mostly about the looks, the Platinum goes all the way with comfort and safety.
